Hello family, we are Paige Antoine and Tonya Gordon, a daughter-mother duo and owners of 225 Sweets.
The business started in 2015 when Paige, at age 14, took an interest in her mom's baking. At the age of 15 she was unhappy that she was unable to work like her sister and cousins, so she decided to start her own business.
In 2018 she told her parents she wanted a car, but she wanted to pay for it herself! She said if you buy it I will get what you want, but if I buy it I can get the car I want. Her dad promised to match however much she saved in one year. So in 2018, 225 Sweets became an official LLC.
By June 2019, only 6 months later, Paige had saved enough money for a down payment on her car and purchased herself a Nissan Versa. Silver with Big Bird Yellow accessories.
After only having her car for 2 month, the excitement was cut short due to the unexpected passing of her dad on August 15, 2019. For a while it was hard for either of them to bake anything, much less enter the kitchen, as that was one of her dad's favorite things to do; cook while she baked.
After 6 months of not baking, and the loss of a 2nd income, now widowed mom and daughter decided to return to the kitchen to get the business back up and running to bring in a little cash. Neither one of them ever expected baking to be more than a way to supplement our income but it in fact became a form of therapy that helped them make it through the grief process.
In May 2020, Paige graduated from Baton Rouge Magnet High with honors, a member of the Honor Society, and she lettered in Track. Unfortunately due to Covid she was unable to have a traditional graduation.
Now in college, Paige is still hands on with the business in her spare time but the company is mostly managed by her mom, Tonya. The mother-daughter duo continues to develop new recipes and introduce new products to their customers.
